Make your own lipstick/lip gloss
by adding eye shadow to vaseline..if you prefer a lighter feel however you can use
softened lip balm...preferably from a pot that way you can use the flavoured stuff to make
it taste better:) you can store this in empty lip balm tubes or if you make just a tiny
bit you can screw down a lipbalm a bit and fill in the top with your concoction and simply
slip it into your purse.
Make your own eyeshadow combos..two ways to
do this... you can break up the caked stuff and mix together the now powdered form and
place them into tiny containers or the same compact you took them out from
you can also take an existing eyeshadow or what u just mixed and mix it together with
vaseline to get a really glam look but be sure to prep your lids with foundation and a
dusting of loose powder before because this stuff will migrate!
and thirdly you can buy those pots of loose powder shadow and mix them together...buy them
with a friend so you can split the cost and the colours...they usually come with way too
much shadow for one person to use up by themselves!:)and one other great thing i've found
that transforms any colour eyeshadow...and takes it from day to night...it may be a
bit glam for daytime but i like sparkles so i use it...is to buy a pot of shimmery white
or iridescent shadow and layer it over
the top of your shadow it looks great!:) - Kristen
For anyone who wears washable mascara's - I
use baby bath wash to remove the mascara. Since the baby bath is
tear free - it won't burn my adult eyes either! Plus I wear disposable contacts and they
stay in while I'm washing
off my mascara. Baby bath is much cheaper than "make=up" removers (you can also
wash your face with it). ss
I know that the aim of this site is to save people money on cosmetics but sometimes, like in my case, you just have to put up the big bucks to get quality products. On that note, I have to wholeheartedly suggest M.A.C. cosmetics for women of yellow toned skin. I have spent more money that I care to mention on foundations and concealers and powders that have either been too light, too dark, or too pink. I finally gave in and bought the $18 bottle of M.A.C.'s Satin Finish foundation (in shade C-40), the $10 pot of their concealer (in C-35), and the $17 tub of their loose powder (in shade NC-30). That total comes out to $45 but I have never felt more relaxed about my foundation. The shades vary, at least for me because I think their naming of shades is a little flawed. I have never felt more confident about my face. I don't have to worry about the foundation looking weird or turning colors. Sometimes, those drugstore bargains are not bargains at all and sometimes, a woman is better off in a department store. - Maria
Hi! I just have to rave about L'Oreal Quickstick in Sand Beige. It is the PERFECT match to my skin. I love it so much that I wrote the company to thank them. I have a sallow complexion that is typical for most Japanese. HTH Lorretta
Congratulations!! This has to be one of the most unique sites I've
ever seen. Tossing my 2 cents into the ring.
Save all manner of cosmetic compacts, containers, etc.
To get the metal liner out of the case without damaging anything, drizzle any
type of adhesive remover deemed safe for use on plastic (if you don't have a
commercial product, any type of vegetable based oil will work) between the liner and
the compact. Wait a few minutes, using whatever works best for you gently work the
liner loose. Works everytime! Once that's done simply remove ther rest of the
glue (and any labels), wash, dry and give a quick once over with alcohol.
Lipstick tip: I stumbled across this tip one
day when I was too lazy to run out to the store and pick up one of those pill
containers. Using either a double boiler, or make your own (another tip here,
creating a double boiler by using a frying pan rather than a bowl provides you with a nice
flat surface), with the frying pan off, bring the water to a boil. In the meantime
place whatever product you intend blend into the metal liner (make sure to take it out of
the compact for this step) from one or more of your clean/disinfected cosmetic cases.
Once the water is boiling, turn down the heat to a simmer. Place the frying
pan over the pot of water, place your soon to be one of a kind cosmetic creations in the
pan. In a few short minutes your lipstick or concealer will begin to melt, if you
want to blend them, stir before taking the compacts off the burner. I tried blending
after I removed them only to find it takes no time at all for the product to harden.
I've found using bamboo skewers work great for blending, use one to hold the metal
liner and the other to blend. Keeps your hands away from the burner and the steam! MJB
Love the FF site! Here are my most recent drugstore coups:
Cover Girl Balanced Formula Liquid Foundation in Classic
Ivory. Perfect for my fair, slightly sensitive skin, and blends
beautifully. I have tried LOTS of foundations--everything from Estee Lauder, to
Maybelline. This is a really nice one. I got it at WalMart for 2.50 on sale. Loreal's Feel Naturale foundation in Sheer Ivory
is another great formula. This one I received FREE with a rebate at CVS.
I am also a big Jane fan. I
love the Eye Zinger shadows. Pretty in Pink is a fabulous matte, pale pink. Rock Star is a
lovely matte pale beige. Plum Perfect is matte gray/plum. All blend beautifully,
wear as long as any other brand I've tried, including Clinique (which I admit I am also a
big fan of) and cost 3.50 or less at the drugstore. Jane also makes a great cream
blush. I have it in "Berry Good". It's a nice, clear pink and it blends very
easily. It's also packaged in a handy pot with a screw-on lid
that is attached to the container. That way you never lose the lid or knock it off your
vanity table. Again, 3.50 at WalMart.
Finally, I tried the Johnson and Johnson Head to Toe Baby
Wash after reading about it on this and other beauty sites. It does a
wonderful job of cleansing my face GENTLY and removing all makeup. I never need to use
toner anymore. It has a pleasant, very mild fragrance. Thanks again for a wondeful site.
Sincerely, Heidi
I have found a concealer that works pretty well...i guess...it's Maybelline
Revitalizing Concealer. it's nice and creamy to put on and covers my
circles pretty well. -Anonymous
Hi, Lauren!
Just discovered a cool tip to share with you and your readers. I used to be addicted to
Lancome Definicils mascara (which is way expensive -about $17). I read a tip about Maybelline Volum Express mascara in Allure and
gave it a try. I was unhappy at first because it goes on kind of gloppy, but then I
figured it out. If you wipe a lot of the excess off the wand with a tissue before you
apply it and wait a little extra time between coats to let it dry, it looks FABULOUS! I
did a comparison test with my Lancome and I think the Maybelline lashes look longer and
fuller. Plus, it's a LOT cheaper! As always, kudos to you for such a great site. Death to
department store cosmetics! :> Mandy
You
know recently loads of brands like Olay, L'oreal, Garnier, Dove etc. have been
coming up with deep cleansing facial wipes that are supposed to take the place
of the normal cleansing routine for busy women? In terms of the ingredients used
and even the type of cloth/tissue, it's nothing more than baby wipes! In fact,
baby wipes work so much better in being gentle to sensitive skin (like mine!),
containing ingredients and emollients like aloe vera, vitamin e and moisturisers,
are alcohol-free and remove makeup especially around the eyes like a breeze! I
swear by them in removing the strongest oil-based makeup in a fraction of the
time!
And the best thing is the price. A facial wipe by L'oreal cost AUD$8.00 for 25;
baby wipes come in bulk and cost less than AUD$4.00 for 200!
Obviously at that kind of price, I can use them for any purpose (a quick
refresher in between hours, makeup removal, sweaty days at the beach etc.) and
throw them away without feeling the pinch! Cheers,
Elaine
Hi, I just read some interest on your recommendation page for discount cosmetics on the Frugal Face site and wanted to give you some links to those cosmetics that are mostly found in dollar stores and 99 Cents Only stores.
For the woman who wanted BR Cosmetics, the manufacturer is Rich On Inc. in Los Angeles. I have three compact eye shadows from this brand, and they are very long lasting, as the woman mentioned. I put them on top of transparent Jane Glow-Goddess shimmer that I got for .81 at Target. Some of the Rich On cosmetic kits are so elaborate, like fold-out bento boxes. http://www.richon.com/index.htm
This is for the woman who liked Jordanna products. http://www.jordanacosmetics.com/jhome.html
Aziza II is a .99 brand of cosmetics that were intended for African-American women, but who cares, they're super so I use them, and I am a very pale Chinese girl :-). The "Intimate" line is also linked here. http://www.interparfumsinc.com/prod-mass-cosm.html
A section of wholesale lipsticks and products can be found here, they're from the Wet N' Wild line from AC Cosmetic, including Sweet Georgia Brown and Artmatics http://www.sav-on-wholesale.com/main.html
Here is where you can get discount makeup online, without having to have a reseller's license or having to buy in bulk from the wholesalers. http://www.cosmeticsdepotonline.com/
Well, it's been really fun to get these links to you, I love how one can find the most obscure, but goodie, products online. Sincerely, Lydia Lam
